Good afternoon, Parents! I cannot believe we are only 4 days away from Spring Break!! Please keep in mind that school will be out from April 1-5. Remember to continue to read with your child, practice sight words, and work on addition/subtraction fluency within 5. Fluency means that your child will be able to do "mental math" adding and subtracting up to 5 (for example, 2+3 or 5-1).
Report cards were sent home on Friday for our 3rd Quarter grades. The students have been working very hard towards their goals and are really showing their growth. I could not be more proud of ALL of them :) Here are some upcoming dates or events: March 29: Awards Day (by invitation only) April 1-5: Spring Break (NO SCHOOL) April 8: Cycle 10 Phonics test April 24: Cycle 11 Phonics test May 2: Spring Bling Dance 6:30-8pm May 3: Career Day May 10: Field Day!

Happy Saturday, Parents! We had a great week last week in Kindergarten. We had the opportunity to celebrate 2 of our students' birthdays and began our research project on animals. We are also gearing up for our first FIELD TRIP to the Chattahoochee Nature Center on the 21st of March. Please make sure that you have filled out the permission forms and sent in your payment by the end of this week. If you need a replacement permission form, please do not hesitate to ask me and I will be happy to supply you with a replacement form. We will also be having Early Release this Wednesday for Cobb County Professional Development. Students will be dismissed at 12:20 this Wednesday, March 18th.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend with their families. I am excited to see the students tomorrow to jump into some new topics and opportunities for our classroom. Your child MAY have mentioned Headsprout to you. This is an online game that aligns your child with their abilities to teach and support their reading skills. The students seem to really be enjoying it in class and learn something new on it everyday. I will be sending their sign in information so that they may continue their growth at home. This is a free app that can be accessed through computers/tablets/phones that keeps your child not only entertained but engaged in their personal learning. We also began using a new program named Seesaw in which students can display their learning and understandings through videos, pictures, and writing. The best part is these submissions by the students can also be emailed home for you to view and enjoy! Please do not forget that this week is supposed to be COLD, COLD, COLD! Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the winter weather (c'mon Spring) with winter jackets and hats. If you need any assistance obtaining these items, please do not hesitate to ask me or the front desk. We also have a field trip coming up to the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Yellow permission slips have been sent home in your child's folder. Please make sure to fill these out and send them back by the 10th of March. If you have lost the permission slip, send a note in your child's folder and I will be happy to send home a replacement. We are super excited for our first field trip and look forward to everyone getting to participate! We are focusing on being kind to our friends and family and showing them that we love and care for each other. We will be participating in random acts of kindness this week and learning about how to think of others before yourself. Valentine's Day is on Thursday, February 14th. We will celebrate by exchanging valentines and doing fun Valentine's Day themed learning activities. Please remember to send in a Valentine box for your child to keep their valentines in. Also, please send in 20 valentines with your child's name written on each for them to give their friends in class. You can find these valentines at the Dollar Store, Target, Walmart, etc. If you need any assistance getting these items, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or a note in your child's yellow folder. I will be happy to assist!

We had a great week here at Powers Ferry. We learned about living and non-living things and explored the story The Mitten. We continued working on comparing numbers within 20 and have been hard at work writing our informational pieces about fish. I enjoyed seeing some of you last night at the Character Extravaganza! It was great seeing your families learn and have fun together. The weather seems to only be getting COLDER so please make sure that your child has appropriate cold weather attire and their names are inside all jackets and hats. If you need any assistance with clothing for your family, do not hesitate to call the school and they will be happy to assist you with those needs! This will be our focus for next week: Reading- identifying key details in Tacky the Penguin and gathering details from non-fiction penguin informational texts. We have a busy week coming up with Thanksgiving arriving. Please note the dates below to make sure you don't miss out! It has also been getting very cold outside so please make sure that your child has the appropriate clothing on so that they are comfortable both inside the school and outside at recess, buses, and car riders. We have an exciting performance planned for Thursday evening for Turkey Bingo at Powers Ferry Elementary. The whole Kindergarten grade will be singing Thanksgiving songs before this fun event. Please make sure that your child is at the school by 6:10 so that they are ready by the performance at 6:30. We are asking all students to wear a white shirt and blue jeans. Immediately following the performance, Turkey Bingo will begin! This is an AWESOME event and is SOOOOO much fun. You can stay and join in on the fun or buy bingo cards to participate. The cost is $3 per card (2 games available on each card) or 2 cards for $5. We will also have a Sweet Treats Lounge. If you'd like to enjoy the Lounge just bring a small dessert to share. If you have any questions about this event please do not hesitate to ask me or the front office for more information. Also, on Tuesday the 13th we will be having our annual Thanksgiving Feast at school. You are invited to come eat with your child and the class. The cost for the meal is $3.75 per person. I hope everyone is having a great week. I can't believe that October is almost over and the holidays are starting up. I love the fall weather we have FINALLY been getting. It's nice to go outside at the playground and not be sweaty and tired 5 minutes in to playing. I think the kids are really enjoying seeing the change in the season and they have been pointing out the dropping temperatures, changing leaves, and the difference in the sun. With the weather cooling down, please do not forget to send your child with appropriate clothing such as a jacket and long pants. Also, please label their jackets so they can return home with the right owner.

October 9- Zaxby's Spirit Night (Paint with a Twist) October 10- End of 1st Quarter October 11- Early Release (School will release at 12:20, ASP will run till 6 PM as normal.) October 15-19- CONFERENCE WEEK/Early Release (School will release at 12:20, ASP will run till 6 PM as normal.) October 20- Fall Festival 11-12:30 PM Please note that Conference Week will be the week of October 15-19. We will discuss your child's performance academically and behaviorally, answer any questions or concerns you may have, view some of your child's work, and receive their first report card! I have sent home conference slips with a suggested time. If you have not already, please return the slip and identify whether you can attend and if you need a translator. If the time does not meet your schedule, please mark that you would like another time and I will let you know the days and times I have left. I also have morning hours if that is more feasible from 6:50-7:10. Please send a note in your child's folder if you need another conference slip (I know our kindergartners can sometimes misplace important papers!)
